Things you need for your new puppy

  • Puppy play pen

Iris play pens are what I use. Do not get a mesh play pen because puppies nails can get caught.

  • Emery Boards

Keep Emery boards for nail grooming. Always remember to unhook puppy nails do not pull.

  • Oatmeal Shampoo

Put cotton in ears when you give a bath.. Make sure ears stay dry or they WILL get infected

  • Puppy Pads

You can use the disposable puppy pads. What I use is human bed pads. They are washable. I put a small tarp down first then the puppy pad. Food water toys can go on top of the puppy pad.

  • Round tip scissors

These can be used to cut off matted fur before they get too big. I personally also use them to keep the hair near their eyes trimmed down.

  • Peppermint Oil

A few drops on your hand then rub the puppies fur on their legs and back. Try not to get too much on their skin. This keeps fleas away until you can get to the vet and discuss a flea regiment.

  • Small fleece blanket

  • Stainless Steel Food and Water Bowls

  • Filtered Water

This will help with tears. Angel Eyes is also very good.

  • Food

Puppies will be eating EarthBorn Holistic Puppy Vantage. I give dehydrated chicken as snacks. You can give vegetables, fruits, and meats. (no salt added) Whole food is best.

  • Kitten Collar with Bell

This way you know where your puppy is at all times

  • Puppy Harness

Puppies have very small necks use a harness when taking for a walk.

  • Nutrical

Some of these puppies are very small and their sugar can drop unexpectedly. Nutrical is a good way to get their sugar back up. Give a small amount if they start to look lethargic. In my 17 years of breeding, this has happened to only one of my puppies. It was after getting vaccinated.

Taking care of your puppy

  • Vaccines

Booster vaccines will be needed no later than 30 days on the day of the health certificate. 30 days after booster puppy will need a rabies vaccine. Two weeks after the rabies vaccine your puppy will be ready to go outside.

  • Potty Training

The best strategy I have found is to take your puppy potty first thing in the morning. Pick the puppy up and put outside or on the potty pad whichever you are going to use. Your puppy will be looking for a place to go to the bathroom within 20 minutes of eating. You will notice your new friend smelling the ground. This is very important pick him up at this point and put him on the pad or take them him/her outside. They will get restless when you are holding them if they need to go potty again put them on their pad or put them outside. Remember the signs. Do not put them on the floor because they will find a spot and pee, make sure they are picked up. This is the fastest and easiest way to potty train. There are many tutorials online.

  • Finger Biting

I know it’s cute at first, but don’t allow your puppy to bite. It will become a problem in the future. Imagine a friend coming over with a two year old and gets bitten by your puppy.

  • Dental Care

Make sure to keep their teeth clean. Greenies are great for teeth. There are many products for dental hygiene on the market. Get them used to tooth brush at an early age.

  • Further Notes

Make sure you socialize your puppy with other people and pets as often as possible so they don’t get aggressive.
